Sonia Sareen has trained in many arts, such as Studio Pottery, Cold Ceramics, Stained Glass, Mosaics, Figurative Glass Paintings, Metal enamelling, Fusing & Slumping and Metal Sculptures. She is perhaps best known for her exquisite work in stained glass and a designer par excellence. Qualified as an interior decorator from South Delhi Women's Polytechnic, Sonia quickly explored its potential by experimenting with all kinds of forms and media.
Her curiosity and desire to learn have given her a perspective that is constantly evolving. The learning doesn't stop at the art she endeavors to master, but touches everything that lies at the periphery and extends its influence to every sphere of her life. She further pursued her love for arts at The School of Visual Arts, New York and studied Art Appreciation and India: Art & Culture at the prestigious National Museum. She learnt the art of Picassiette under the tutelage of Valerie Carmet in New York. More recently, under the tutelage of Reggie Lim of Singapore, she learnt the art of slumping and fusion. Sonia says, "The day I stop learning and creating, is the day I die." She considers herself fortunate to have been guided and taught by incredibly talented masters in various forms of art. She ventured into cold ceramic and dye casting subsequently. She has presented solo shows at Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi since 1989. She has also been part of numerous group shows in Delhi including Romanticists 1(Alliance Française 2013), Inspired 15 (Lalit Kala Akademi 2014), Romanticists 2 (India Habitat Centre 2014),10 Point Perspective (India Habitat Centre 2014),Visual Avalanche (India Habitat Caentre 2014), and has received the President's nomination for her work "PattriNi- a sapling" in the 86th Annual All India Exhibition, 2013 at AIFFACS. Her perception of art is summed up quite well in what Picasso had said once, "The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls." "I bask in the well-lit expanse of life, as I experience it every day. Equally, I constantly seek hidden crannies - perhaps even forbidden - to find inspiration. Both find expression in my art. This is how I see and reflect life. It's a daily adventure. I welcome that "dust" and I welcome its purging!" 32A, Empire Estate, Sultanpur, Gurgaon, Haryana 122001 mob: +91 9811011958 email: [email protected] |
